Why Drink Water?
Water is the most effective and the healthiest way!
As children in school, a standard learning experience involves the actual chemical makeup of certain common elements that we are all familiar with. Perhaps the most common of those is water. We learn that water is composed of two parts hydrogen and one part oxygen. That still didn’t click as to why it was important to drink it, however.
At this point we know that we are made up of approximately 65% water, give or take a few percentage points here and there. Your blood contains much water, which is the flowing agent. Your brain and lungs are also part water. It’s used by your digestive system to complete the digestive process. It digests the food and moves the waste through your body and out. Nutrients must travel through your body and be carried to all of the vital organs. Water facilitates that movement.
Another handy function of water is to keep your joints working correctly. Without drinking enough water your joints are operating at a less than perfect mode. Water helps them to move fluidly and protects them from running dry. Natural cortisone protects your joints as they contain a measure of it, but the water in your system helps to keep everything from drying up including the natural lubricants that aid in smooth moving joints.
To figure out how much water you should drink each day, weigh yourself if you don’t know your current weight. Now divide your weight in half and that’s the number of ounces of water you should drink in a day for optimum results. For example, if you weigh 184 pounds, your ideal water consumption amount daily would be 92 ounces. The old idea about drinking 8 glasses of water each day, 8 ounces each glass is no longer the rule of thumb.
If it sounds like a lot of fluids for you to drink, consider how much moisture you are getting through your foods and other beverages. An average of one fifth of the water you need comes from your food and other sources.
Fruit juices, vegetable juices, tea, coffee, sports drinks, and sodas all contain water which counts in the daily calculation. Be careful of the other content in those drinks though. Water is the most effective and the healthiest way for you to get your daily amount. Sugar is present in many of the alternatives and may present a hazard of its own.
