Drinking Cold Water
Full House Water Filtration: There’s no question that drinking water is a terrific boost to your health. Everyone should
drink lots of water to create a healthy flushing system. You can flush out harmful toxins with water and keep all of your cells well hydrated, allowing them to operate at full capacity. Dehydrated cells are not efficient.
So is there any reason you shouldn’t drink water cold? What about when you exercise? The desire for cold water is paramount when one is exercising. It just tastes very refreshing and keeps you going. What happens when the water is cold versus room temperature or warm?
The answer is pretty simple. Cold water is absorbed more quickly into the body than warmer water. That means your body is taking in the water right away and putting it to use when you drink it cold. Since exercise causes a need for extra water, you can drink it cold to give you the best results. The sports specialists that work with athletes recommend drinking cool water while exercising for fastest results.
Cold water flows through the stomach at a rapid rate and is sent immediately to the intestines to be absorbed by your system. When you exercise you sweat and lose fluids, so replacing them as quickly as possible is important.
Cold water is also more refreshing than lukewarm water. That means you are much more likely to drink more water if it’s cold. That’s a good thing. The more you drink the better for you. If chilled water encourages you to drink more, then it can only be good. Drink water that is chilled below the temperature of the room for best effect.
If you need to add flavor to your water to encourage you to drink it, try adding a squeeze of lemon. Stay away from the sugar though, as that has the opposite effect and your healthy drink turns into yet more sugar. The closer to plain water you can drink, the better off you’ll be.
When exercising heavily, more than an hour at a time, you’ll need to drink some kind of electrolyte replacement drink. It might work to drink that alternately with plain water. Just be sure that if you are sweating heavily for an hour you replace your electrolytes. Plain old water is great if you exercise for less than an hour. The addition of a bit of lemon is ok there for flavor.
